At this time we are looking for novel-length works of fiction in the following genres: romance (including romantic suspense, romantic comedy, historical romance, paranormal romance, chick-lit, and general woman's fiction); science fiction; fantasy; and mystery/thriller. We define novel-length fiction as manuscripts with approximately 50,000 words or more.

We are not interested in fan fiction, novelizations of existing movies, or other derivative works.

We are interested in publishing excellent novels whose rights have reverted to the author.

The author must have all rights to the story and all of the elements of that story.

We will accept simultaneous submissions (you may submit the same work to other publishers at the same time, but do appreciate the courtesy of letting us know this).

We are open to novels set any time period, in any geographic region, and populated with characters of any ethnic background. We are open to varying levels of sensuality. While we do not offer gay/lesbian romances, we are open to gay/lesbian characters and protagonists in our science fiction, fantasy, and mystery stories may be gay or lesbian.

Please have completed your novel before querying us.

• The title of your work
• Word Count
• Genre (and sub-genre if applicable)
• A brief (2-3 paragraph) character and plot synopsis
• Whether this novel has been previously published
• Whether you (the author) have been published with another publisher

Generally we respond to queries within one week. If you have not heard from us by the end of one week after querying, please follow up with us by e-mail as it is possible that our spam-guard may have captured your query.

Generally, we will request a partial, including a synopsis. The partial manuscript allows us to determine if the writing is a good fit with our needs, and whether the story fits the genre. We attempt to respond to partials within 2 months. If we like the partial, we will request a full manuscript. Both partials and complete manuscripts should be submitted electronically, by e-mail.

Rights acquired. We acquire electronic rights. We generally request that rights be offered for an indefinite amount of time, subject to cancellation by either party on 90 days notice. We will discuss alterations in this to meet author preferences. BooksForABuck.com also offers paper publication. Paper publication is optional. If you wish, you may retain your paper rights and sell these to another publisher (or self-publish). The author retains copyright and all rights not explicitly granted to BooksForABuck.com.
