Review of ONE STUBBORN TEXAN by Kara Lennox (see her website)
Harlequin American Romance #1180, September 2007
Russ Klein wants only one thing--to be left alone with his wilderness business in the hill country of Texas. He's finally helped his mother overcome her self-destructive tendencies, he's survived a father who never cared for him, and he's made something of himself. The last thing he wants is to be reminded of his Las Vegas childhood--and of what those fast-living days did to his mother. Turning down money is easy. Saying no to the beautiful woman who's trying to give it to him, now that is really tough.
For heir-finder Sydney Baines, the Oberlin Inheritance is the holy grail. The commission will not only save her father's business--a business that has been almost ruined as her father dealt with the loss of his wife--it'll also prove to her father that Sydney is a formidable investigator in her own right. And giving the super-sexy Texan a nice chunk of money is certainly a good deed. Or she would have thought so. Mostly, people go out of their way to persuade her they're the heirs even if they aren't. But Russ Klein seems to want her to believe he isn't--even as more and more evidence says he is. So, what is going on here?
Author Kara Lennox (see more BooksForABuck.com reviews of novels by Lennox) spins a charming tale of romance, second chances, and redemption. Both Russ and Sydney have compelling reasons for their positions--reasons that come from their love of family. To overcome those and to create a new family will be a real challenge. Some cute secondary issues like Russ's oversized dog (Sydney is afraid of dogs) add to the enjoyment.
ONE STUBBORN TEXAN is one enjoyable read.
