Review of OUT OF TOWN A FEW DAYS by Ed Lynskey (see his website)

    15 Frank Johnson Stories

    BooksForABuck.com, May 2004

Review by Ginger Johnson of DETECTIVE MYSTERY STORIES (August 2004 issue)

Ed Lynskey has put together a collection of 15 of his stories about his Private Detective, Frank Johnson. This collection is a must for the private eye lover. Ed puts Frank into a jumble of places, and a quandary of troubles. And with an attitude, Johnson is constantly finding out the truth in each case. With murder, women, and some choice stories, this book is a must. The stories are all fast-paced, with a well-written style I have grown to expect from this writer. OUT OF TOWN FOR A FEW DAYS should be on everybody's gift want list.

"Out Of Town," is a collection of short stories telling of different cases that PI Johnson is involved with. You travel with him, not just across the country, but at times across the world on his assignments; this was quite a different swing and I liked it.

Frank Johnson is a PI, with a flare like none other. Tough as nails on the outside, you are surprised as this character begins to grow on you and you wait with anticipation of his next case and the adventure and mystery it holds.

This is a good work, as the author does a great job in bringing PI Johnson to life. I actually was saddened when he had to investigate the deaths of his sister and cousin, and felt this brought a personal element into the read. The characters are well developed and each case that PI Johnson solves has a mystery all it's own, at times you are truly surprised at who the murderer was. In some, outcomes could almost stem on a little 'weird,' but that's why I give this book a high recommendation.

If you want great characters, mysteries that are not the norm, and a work that draws you into the storyline, you will want to read this book. Good job Mr. Lynskey; I look forward to reading more of your work in the future.
