Payment Instructions
BooksForABuck.com includes three different models of payment. Originally we had adopted a 'shareware' concept where readers could download the complete book and pay at their convenience. The advantage of this approach was that there were no transactions costs--all of the money received could be paid to the author or retained to help support this site. Unfortunately, fewer than 1% of our downloaders chose to send in their shareware fee. As a result, we are gradually moving from this original approach toward a Paypal-based model. You may read a portion of a book for FREE (depending on the author's requests, this may be one or more chapters or, rarely, a single scene). If, based on this initial section, and on any book reviews on this or other sites, you are interested, you simply select the "buy" button and download the entire novel. We find that we now achieve a higher revenue level and can afford to make more generous payouts to our authors.
In addition to the one-book-at-a-time PayPal method, we have also introduced a 'shopping cart' approach. This method allows you to buy multiple books in one transaction. After completing your PayPal shopping cart transaction, you will be e-mailed information on how to download your eNovels (within 24 hours).
With the single purchase option, you are presented with a screen that includes a link for 'return to website.' This will take you immediately to the download page.
You've finished reading one of our novels offered under the original model, you are still obligated to send in the $1. For books offered under this model we pay a high 80% royalty--meaning that withholding the $1 means that the author gets cheated of a lot.
Don't have PayPal? You can buy many of our eNovels through Fictionwise.com. If you can't find the book you want on Fictionwise, e-mail us and we'll try to work something out for you.
